Comparison FAQ

RestroManage vs. Square, Answered

Can I keep my own payment processing with RestroManage?+
Yes. RestroManage connects to your own Stripe account, so your card rate is the rate you have negotiated with Stripe and payouts land in your bank account directly. Square for Restaurants works the other way around: Square Payments is part of the product, so the processing rate comes with the POS. If you are already happy with a processor, that difference matters more than any plan price.
What does Square charge to process a card payment in Australia?+
Square publishes 1.6% on in-person tapped, inserted or swiped payments for sellers who signed up from 30 May 2024, and 2.2% for online, invoice, keyed-in and card-on-file payments. Some older accounts sit on a different in-person rate. Those are Square's published terms rather than ours, so check the current rate card before you compare — and remember it applies to every sale, on the free plan as well as the paid ones.
Do I have to buy new hardware to switch?+
Usually not. RestroManage runs on Android POS terminals and tablets, including the all-in-one units many Australian venues already have behind the counter, and supports Tap to Pay on compatible phones. Square's pricing is tied to Square hardware — a Terminal from $329, a Handheld from $349, and Square Kiosk charged monthly per device — so a Square rollout is usually a hardware purchase as well as a subscription.
Does RestroManage handle GST and BAS for an Australian venue?+
It handles the part a POS should. Menu items carry GST, GST-free or input-taxed treatment, receipts show your ABN and the GST included, and your BAS label figures can be exported for your bookkeeper or accountant along with a sales feed into Xero, MYOB AccountRight, QuickBooks Online or Sage. RestroManage does not lodge your BAS with the ATO — that stays with you or your agent.
